Tell us about yourself:

My name is Taylor Faulkner, I’ve been living in Charleston for the past 7 years, and I’ve fallen in love with this city and the artist community that continues to grow. I’ve been doing some form of art since before I can even remember, and when I’m not creating you can catch me outside.

What inspires you?

My surroundings; whether it be people or the outdoors. It’s form that really makes me swoon. I love to surf, as well as watching surfers out on Folly, and that’s where I get a lot of my inspiration, as well as other artists that I follow.

How do you manage it all?

The best I can.. I really like to try and balance work and play.. luckily art is a form of play for me, so it’s never an issue to get into the studio.. unless we have a ton of nice weather, then it’s a tough one.

Which artists inspire you?

I love, Bill Watterson, Fritz Scholder, and Thomas Campbell.

How would you describe your art /design aesthetic?

A little sketchy, with a touch of detail and whimsy.

What is your favorite art trend?

Maybe tie dye?? It’s fun. Most textile work is so cool to me!

What do you love about working in the Charleston community?

There are no egos! It’s incredible. Everyone I’ve met in the Charleston art scene has been very open about sharing their work and process. It’s a very encouraging town.

What projects stick out to you?

I had my first solo show in Redux two May’s ago. A friend of mine curated it, and I just had a blast getting everything ready. It was called ‘Small Breaks’, showcasing surf and skate, involving oils and small wood carvings.

Any new exciting projects coming up?

I do like creating pieces for Affordable Art! I am also making some surf fin pillows to go into my friends new gallery space. Other than that just trying to get inspired, and to keep making time for the studio.
